Hirschfeld Estimator Jennifer Jernigan spotlighted in MSC Magazine
San Angelo, Texas (June 2011) – Jennifer Jernigan of Hirschfeld Industries was chosen for Modern Steel Construction’s “people to know” segment in the June 2011 issue. Modern Steel Construction (MSC) www.modernsteel.com is a monthly publication of the American Institute of Steel Construction. MSC provides its readership with in-depth information on the newest and most advanced uses of structural steel in buildings and bridges. Additionally, MSC highlights the people whose passion for the industry helps to bring innovation to life.
MSC choose to highlight Jernigan for her passionate involvement and dedication to Hirschfeld. Jernigan has worked for the past 10 years as a steel estimator under Vice President Harry Jolly. She has learned the craft of translating engineering design drawings and specifications into material takeoff and provides estimates for accurate price proposals to Hirschfeld clients.
In addition, Jernigan is working to earn her degree in Construction Management and even brought her favorite hobby into the workplace by contributing her photography talents to the company’s benefit through the website and brochures.
“I’m a very visual person. I look at a set of drawings and have to imagine what that steel connection looks like, and what they’re going to have to do in the shop and to erect it,” said Jernigan. “So when I’m taking a picture of something, it’s not very difficult for me to imagine what a cool view would be and figure out where I need to be to get that view.”
Her keen eye creates dynamic visual displays of often complex, monumental, and dramatic steel structures. Jernigan’s visual skills and patience were developed as a young pre-digital era photographer, inspired by her Father who helped lay the groundwork for her understanding of steel structures.
“Hirschfeld Industries is one of the largest fully integrated fabricators of highly engineered structural steel components in North America and we’re proud to have Jernigan on our team along with 900 other outstanding employees,” said Wendall Hirschfeld, Vice President of Business Development.
