Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge
As the widest cable-stay bridge in the world, carrying ten lanes of traffic, the steel portion of this bridge measures 745 feet in length and 183 feet in width. This landmark bridge is the most visible segment of the Central Artery/Tunnel project in Boston, also known as “The Big Dig.”
Challenge: Four of the 24-ton anchor box sections were damaged in transit in a railway accident. The damaged boxes were shipped by truck back to our plant in Grand Junction, Colorado, repaired and returned to the job site with no delay in the construction schedule.
